PageSentry displays the Status Window when it is running normally. This window lists all the currently active Sentries and shows their current status. In addition to displaying information, the status window gives you control over the operation of each Sentry.

Status Detail
The detail box gives you complete status information on the currently selected Sentry (or Pulse). To select a Sentry (or the Pulse), simply click once on the Sentry's name in the "Sentry Status" portion of the window. The information in the detail box includes:

Sentry - Displays the name of the currently selected Sentry (or pulse).

Test - This line gives information on the test performed by the Sentry. A status of "OK" means that the last test was completed successfully. If the status of the Sentry is "ERR", detail is shown that describes the error received along with additional information describing the condition of the error.

Notifier - If the Sentry status is "ERR", and a Notifier has been executed, the status of the Notifier is shown here. For instance, if a Notifier sends an e-mail message, and the message is sent properly, "OK" will be displayed. If the Notifier does not execute properly, the Notifier Status will display an appropriate error message. If a Notifier is not selected for a Sentry, the Notifier Status will always display "No action taken."

Note: The Notifier status does not reflect if an external script executed properly or not; it displays only whether or not the script was executed. PageSentry has no method to verify if a script executed as expected.

Sentry Status Lines

Each Sentry's name, status, and time until its next check are displayed on one line in the status window. The status diplayed is a high-level status of "---", "***", "OK" or "ERR" and reflects the last test performed by the Sentry. A status of "---" simply means that the Sentry hasn't yet performed a test, and "OK" means that the last test was completed successfully. A status of "ERR" means that the last test resulted in an error, and a notification was sent. For more detail on the error that occurred, click once on the name to select the Sentry and display the detail information in the "Status Detail" box. During the Sentry's check, the status display in the list will change to "***".

To force a Sentry to run it's test immediately, double-click on it's status. When you double-click on the status of a Sentry, PageSentry will reduce the "Time To Check" to 0 and the Sentry will immediately begin testing.

The "Time To Check" column shows the number of minutes or seconds until that Sentry will perform it's test again. In the case of the pulse, this is the time until PageSentry will send the next pulse.

By double-clicking on the "Time To Check" value of a Sentry, you can take the Sentry "Off Duty", which will temporarily suspend its testing. When you double-click on a Sentry's "Time To Check", the display will change to "OFF DUTY". You might do this when you take your server off-line to make changes, or any other time you know the server will be unavailable. Double-click again on the "Time To Check" to have the sentry resume testing.

If you want to remove all Sentires from duty, double click on the "Time To Check" column label. Double-clicking the "Time To Check" label will turn all Sentries "OFF DUTY" or put them all "ON DUTY", based on the current status of the currently selected Sentry in the Sentry list.

To make changes to a Sentry, double-click on the Sentry name and the Edit Sentry window will appear. This is simply a short-cut and is identical to opening the Sentry from the Object Manager.
